It began in 1969 with Byron Lewis.
Before the advertising industry understood the economic power of multicultural consumers, Byron Lewis, a young African American advertising executive, realized that the needs of a growing black consumer base should be reflected in an agency that best represents them.
Upon her arrival as Chair in 2012 Monique Nelson enhanced UWG’s range of expertise to connect brands with the growing and diverse cultures in today’s marketplace. She evolved Mr. Lewis’s original concept into UniCulture, a nuanced understanding of the multicultural audience mindset beyond the layers of race and ethnicity.
In October of 2022, UWG elevated Gregory Edwards to President and CEO, after 8 years of exceptional leadership. He is proud to continue to build upon the vision of Byron and Monique, while contributing to this award–winning agency historically rooted in legacy and excellence.
